Swish of Fish | Original Acrylic Painting

Swish of Fish began as an experiment with iridescent paints flowing across a more muted black-and-white background.

As the paint moved and stretched across the canvas, I fell in love with its transformation and the swirling beauty that emerged. The colors weave together in layered currents, creating a composition that feels both energetic and calm.

The painting invites different interpretations. Some viewers see fish, water, or flowing currents. Others see landscapes, movement, or purely abstract forms. The longer you spend with it, the more the shapes seem to shift and evolve. As always, my son gets to name many of my paintings, and he chose Swish of Fish — a title that felt perfect the moment he said it.

Measuring 40 × 80 cm, the piece has a strong vertical presence while maintaining a sense of softness and motion. Its palette of cool blues, warm neutrals, and deep greys allows it to complement a wide range of interiors, from contemporary spaces to more traditional settings.

Like many of my paintings, Swish of Fish emerged through exploration rather than planning. It celebrates the unexpected moments that occur when paint is allowed to move freely and find its own path.
